I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

John 5: 39

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that it is a stumbling block to belief, when we receive honor one of another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God.

How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

Lord God, cause me to believe on Your Son, Jesus.

Lord God, cause me to receive Your Spirit.

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Top of Page    Chapter 8

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that we should not cast stones at those who sin, since we are also guilty of sin.

Lord God, cause me to recognize I have sinned, and am in need of Your mercy.

Lord God, grant me Your mercy for my sin.

Lord God, cause me to demonstrate the same mercy You have given me, to others who fall into sin.

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

John 8: 7

Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.  But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.  Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

John 8: 39-41

Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.  Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

John 8: 41-42

Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

John 8: 43

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

John 8: 44

John 8: 47

Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?  Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.  And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

John 8: 54-55

Top of Page     Chapter 9

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that every affliction is not caused by sin, but some afflictions arise so Your works may be manifested in them.

And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,  And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

John 9: 40-41

Top of Page     Chapter 10

Lord God, help me understand the parable of the Sheep, Gate, and Shepherd.

"I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice." Jesus used this figure of speech, but they did not understand what he was telling them. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-- just as the Father knows me and I know the Father--and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life--only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father."

John 10: 1-18 (NIV)

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that those who do enter the sheep pen by the door, but climb in by another way, are the same as a thief and a robber.

Lord God, keep thieves and robbers from climbing into the pen, and from harming Your sheep.

Lord God, keep Your sheep safe while they are trusting in Jesus.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

John 10: 1

Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

John 18: 14

Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.  Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.

John 18: 20-21

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

John 18: 37

But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?  Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that Your Son had a crown of thorns, placed on his head, was mocked, and was hit by people with their hands.

Lord God, thank Your for Your Son, Jesus, who was willing to endure having a crown of thorns placed on his head, being mocked, and being hit by people with their hands, to glorify You.

Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.  And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,  And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

John 19: 1-3

Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?  Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that Jesus imparted peace to his disciples, when he sent them, in like fashion as You sent him.

Lord God, have Jesus impart peace to me, and send me in like fashion, as You sent him.

Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

John 20: 21

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that Jesus breathed on those disciples he sent, and instructed them to receive the Holy Ghost.

Lord God, have Jesus breath on me, and cause me to receive the Holy Ghost.

And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

John 20: 22

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that were not written in this book.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that the signs Jesus did, which were chosen to write in this book, were written so we might believe that Jesus is the Christ, Your Son, and that believing, we might have life through his name.

Lord God, cause the testimonies in this book, to cause me to believe that Jesus is the Christ, Your Son.

Lord God, having belied that Jesus is the Christ, Your Son, also cause me to have life through his name.

And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:  But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

John 20: 30-31

Lord God, teach me, and guide me, to feed Your lambs, and feed Your sheep.

So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
