arrow_up_1   Chapter 1

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that Paul was a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that this letter was meant for Philemon.

Lord God, thank You for sending Your word to Philemon, Paul and Timothy's beloved fellow laborer.

Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer,

Philemon 1: 1

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that this letter was also meant for Apphia, and Archippus.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that Philemon had believers who met in his house.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that this letter was also meant for the believers who met in Philemon's house.

Lord God, thank You for sending Your word to Apphia, Archippus, and the believers that met in Philemon's house.

And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house:

Philemon 1: 2

Lord God, thank You for Your greetings of grace and peace, You sent to Philemon, Apphia, Archippus, and the believers who met in Philemon's house.

Lord God, cause me to receive grace and peace through You and Your Son, Jesus Christ.

Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Philemon 1: 3

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that Paul gives thanks to You for these people, and always makes mention of them in his prayers.

Lord God, thank You for other believers, willing to mention me in their prayers.

Lord God, cause me to be thankful to You for others, and to always mention them in my prayers.

I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers,

Philemon 1: 4

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that Paul was thankful to You, and always mentioned these people in his prayers when he heard of their love and faith which they have towards the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints.

Lord God, cause me to have love and faith towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints.

Lord God, give me a heart to be thankful to You, and pray for those who have love and faith towards the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints.

Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints;

Philemon 1: 5

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that the communication of our faith, can provide understanding, and acknowledgment, of all good things we have in Christ Jesus.

Lord God, cause the sharing of my faith, to provide understanding, and acknowledgment, of all good things I have in Christ Jesus.

That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Philemon 1: 6

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that those who refresh the hearts of the saints, are able to give us great joy and encouragement.

Lord God, cause me to refresh the hearts of the saints, and to bring great joy and encouragement to other believers.

Lord God, cause others who refresh the saints, to give me great joy and encouragement.

Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints.

Philemon 1: 7 (NIV)

Lord God, thank You for Paul's humility, that even when he could have commanded something to be done in Your name, he chose to ask Philemon to do it, as a favor to himself.

Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Christ to enjoin thee that which is convenient,  Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

Philemon 1: 8-9

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that Paul counted Philemon's slave, Onesimus, as a son, who Paul brought to faith in Christ, while Paul was a prisoner of Christ.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that Paul made a request of Philemon, in regards to Onesimus.

I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

Philemon 1: 10

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that Onesimus, (whose name means useful) was not much use to Philemon in the past, but now that he was a believer in Christ, he was useful for both Paul and Philemon.

Lord God, teach me to be kind to all believers, no matter their situation, so they may be able to seek after You, and do Your will.

Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:

Philemon 1: 11

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that Paul instructs Philemon, that when his slave Onesimus is sent back to him, to receive him as Paul's own son.

Lord God, cause me to receive each believer I meet, as though they are part of Your family, as if they were Your son.

Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:

Philemon 1: 12

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that while Paul was imprisoned for the gospel, Paul would have liked to retain Philemon's slave, so he could minister to Paul in the place of Philemon.

Lord God, teach me to not restrain other believers for my personal use, as they are Yours, and need to be about Your business.

Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:

Philemon 1: 13

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that Paul was not wanting to take the benefit of Philemon's slave for himself as if it were a necessity, but only if it had been granted by Philemon willingly.

Lord God, cause me to not use those in Your service for my own benefit as if it were a necessity, but only if it is granted by You willingly.

Lord God, give me a heart to do Your will, as a blessing to other believers.

But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.

Philemon 1: 14

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that although Philemon's slave had departed for a season, he had returned as an eternal brother.

Lord God, cause those who stray, have their disobedience become an instrument that brings them to become a son, and a brother in Christ.

Lord God, when I stray in dosobedience, bring me back to You as a son, and as a brother in Christ.

For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;

Philemon 1: 15

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that those who are now in Christ, are no longer Your servant, but Christ's beloved brother.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that we are to have brotherly love for fellow believers, both in the flesh, and in You.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that those who are now in Christ, are no longer a servant, but a brother beloved.

Lord God, cause me to have brotherly love for all fellow believers, both in the flesh, and in You.

Lord God, cause me to not be as a servant to You, but as a beloved brother, in Christ.

Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?

Philemon 1: 16

If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.  If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;  I Paul have written it with mine own hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.  Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my bowels in the Lord.  Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.

Philemon 1: 17-21

Lord God, thank You for the words of Paul to his friend, to prepare him a lodging, that through his prayers, he trusted to be brought to him.

Lord God, prepare me a lodging, as I trust through Christ's prayers, I shall be given to You.

But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that through your prayers I shall be given unto you.

Philemon 1: 22

Lord God, thank You for having Paul, and Epaphras, send salutations to their fellow laborers, Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, and Lucas.

There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;  Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.

Philemon 1: 23-24

Lord God, thank you for the prayers of a righteous man being prayed for others, to have the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with them.

Lord God, cause the grace of my Lord Jesus Christ to be with my spirit.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

Philemon 1: 25
