Lord God, thank You for giving king Solomon, the son of king David, the wisdom, understanding, and willingness, to share these proverbs.

Lord God, for Your glory, help me understand these proverbs, and apply their principles to my everyday life.

The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

Proverbs 1: 1

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that these proverbs were given, to teach wisdom and instruction, and make sense of words of understanding.

Lord God, through these proverbs, cause me to know wisdom and instruction.

Lord God, through these proverbs, cause me to understand wise sayings.

To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

Proverbs 1: 2

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that these proverbs were given, to teach wise behavior, righteousness, justice, and equity.

Lord God, through these proverbs, cause me to learn wise behavior, and what is true, just, and fair.

To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

Proverbs 1: 3

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that these proverbs were given, to give prudence to the simple, and knowledge and discretion to the young.

Lord God, through these proverbs, cause me to receive prudence, knowledge, and discretion.

To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

Proverbs 1: 4

Lord God, thank You for Your principle, that through these proverbs, a wise man will hear and will increase learning, and a man of understanding will obtain wise counsels.

Lord God, cause me to hear and increase learning, and to seek after wise counsels.

A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

Proverbs 1: 5

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that the proverbs were presented here, to give understanding of a proverb, with the interpretation, the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

Lord God, through these proverbs, cause me to understand a proverb, with the interpretation, the words of the wise, and their riddles.

To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

Proverbs 1: 6

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that the fear of You is the beginning of knowledge.

Lord God, thank You for Your principle, that fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Lord God, cause me to fear You, and obtain knowledge, wisdom, and instruction.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 1: 7

Lord God, cause me to listen to people You have placed in authority, especially those giving me wise counsel and directing me to obey Your commands, and keep me from forsaking their instruction.

My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

Proverbs 1: 8

Lord God, thank You for Your principle, that the instruction of my father, and the law of my mother should be an ornament of grace to my head, and chains about my neck.

Lord God, cause me to follow the instruction of my parents, and authorities that have taught me in Your word.  Make them an ornament of grace on my head, and an ornament of great worth around my neck.

For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

Proverbs 1: 9

Lord God, thank You for Your instruction, to not let sinners entice me.

Lord God, when immoral people entice me, keep me from giving into temptations.

My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

Proverbs 1: 10

Lord God, thank You for Your principle, that I should stay away from those who devise evil things. Those who say, "We will lie in wait for blood, let us ambush the innocent without reason.  Lets swallow them alive, like the grave, and whole, like those who go down to the pit. We will take their precious goods, and will fill our house with plunder. Throw in your lot with us, and we will all share in the wealth."

Lord God, cause me to not walk in the way of bad company, or murderers, or join with them in their plans.

If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:  Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:  We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:  Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:  My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

Proverbs 1: 11-15

Lord God, thank You for Your principle, that murderer's feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood.

Lord God, keep my feet from running to evil, and keep me from making haste to shed blood.

For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

Proverbs 1: 16

Lord God, thank You for Your principle, that murderers set traps for their victims in the sight of others.

Lord God, thank You for Your principle, that murderers lie in wait for their own blood, and set an ambush for their own lives.

Lord God, cause me to not foolishly set traps for others, which instead takes my own life, and is actually an ambush on myself.

Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.  And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

Proverbs 1: 17-18

Lord God, thank You for Your principle, that the ways of those who are greedy for unjust gain, are the same as a murderer, they both take away the life of the owner.

Lord God, cause me to not be greedy for gain.

So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

Proverbs 1: 19

Lord God, thank You for Your principle, that wisdom cries out, and utters her voice in the streets.

Lord God, cause me to hear wisdom, as she cries out, and as she utters her voice in the streets.

Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

Proverbs 1: 20

Lord God, thank You for Your principle, that wisdom cries out at the head of noisy streets, and she speaks at the entrance of the city gates.

Lord God, cause me to hear wisdom, when she cries out at the head of noisy streets, and when she speaks at the entrance of the city gates.

She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

Proverbs 1: 21

Lord God, thank You for presenting Your wisdom to simpletons, scorners, and fools.

Lord God, take away my love for sin, my delight in scorning, and my hate of knowledge.

Lord God, give me a heart to seek after wisdom, and knowledge.

How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

Proverbs 1: 22

Lord God, thank You for Your instruction, that we are to turn at Your reproof.

Lord God, thank You for Your promise, that if we turn at Your reproof, then You will pour Your Spirit out on us, and will make Your words known to us.

Lord God, cause me to turn when You correct me, pour Your Spirit out on me, and make Your words known to me.

Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

Proverbs 1: 23

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that You have called, and have stretched out Your hand, but no man regarded.

Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

Proverbs 1: 24

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that You have offered counsel that was not heeded, and given rebuke that was not accepted.

Lord God, cause me to heed Your counsel, and accept Your rebuke.

But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

Proverbs 1: 25

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that You will laugh at the calamity of those who will not listen to You or turn at Your reproof, and You will mock them when their fear comes.

Lord God, cause me to listen to You, pay attention when You stretch out Your hand, take heed to Your counsel, and turn at Your rebuke.

I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

Proverbs 1: 26

Lord God, thank You for Your principle, that for them who will not listen when You call, pay attention when You stretch out Your hand, take heed of Your counsel, and accept Your rebuke, their fear will come as desolation, their destruction will come as a whirlwind, and distress and anguish will come upon them.

Lord God, cause me to listen when You call, pay attention when You stretch out Your hand, take heed of Your counsel, and accept Your rebuke.

When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

Proverbs 1: 27

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that those who hated knowledge, and did not choose to fear You, will call on You, but You will not answer, they will seek You, but will not find You.

Lord God, cause me to love knowledge.

Lord God, cause me to fear You.

Lord God, when I call on You, answer me. When I seek You, cause me to find You.

Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

Proverbs 1: 28-29

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that those will not accept Your counsel, will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that those who despise Your correction, will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

Lord God, cause me to receive Your instruction.

Lord God, cause me to cherish Your correction.

They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,  And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,  Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,  In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:  And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.  (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:  Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)  So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,  I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.  Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.  I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.  I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.  Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.  For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:  He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.  With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.  He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;  Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

Proverbs 7: 6-23

Lord God, thank You for Your instruction, to listen to You, and to pay attention to the words of Your mouth. To not let our hearts turn aside to the ways of the adulteress, and don't stray into her paths.

Lord God, cause me to listen to You, and take heed of Your words. Keep my heart from the ways of the adulteress, and keep me from straying into her paths.

Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.  Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
