Psalm 49: 6-9

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that wise men die on the earth, and the fools and brutish people perish.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that men leave their wealth to others, with the inward thought that their houses will continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that men call lands by their own names, striving for long term honor.

Lord God, cause me to not place hope on my riches, possessions, or properties, as if they will honor me for ever.

Lord God, cause me to seek You,  and to not place my hope on things of this earth.

For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.

Psalm 49: 10-11

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that even those held in great honor, do not remain on the earth.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that even those held in great honor, are like beasts that perish.

Lord God, cause me to realize my own mortality, and the temporal existence of earthly possessions.

Lord God, cause me to not place my hope in my wealth, or in being highly esteemed among men.

Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.

Psalm 49: 12

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that those who trust in themselves, and those who follow after them, are laid in graves like sheep.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that death will feed on those who trust in themselves, and those who follow after them.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that the upright will have dominion over those who trust in themselves, and those who follow after them.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that the beauty of those who trust in themselves, and those who follow after them, will decay in the grave, far from their fancy estates.

Lord God, cause me to not trust in my possessions or wealth.

Lord God, cause me to not trust in myself.

Lord God, cause me to be upright.

This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah. Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

Psalm 49: 13-14

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that You are able to redeem our souls from the power of the grave.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that when we die, You are able to receive us.

Lord God, redeem my soul from the power of the grave.

Lord God, upon my death, be there to receive me.

But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.

Psalm 49: 15

Lord God, thank You for Your instruction, to not fear when others are made rich.

Lord God, thank You for Your instruction, to not fear when the glory of another one's house is increased.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that when the rich die, they shall carry nothing away.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that those who treasure this world's glory, will not have it follow with them into the grave.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that the glory of this world, does not descend with a person into their grave.

Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.

Psalm 49: 16-17

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that when men do well for themselves, other men praise them.

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that those who live to bless their own soul, shall go down with the generation of his father's, and shall never see light.

Lord God, cause me to not live to bless my own soul.

Lord God, cause me to not live for my own welfare, or to seek the praises of men.

Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself. He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.

Psalm 49: 18-19

Lord God, thank You for Your truth, that men who are in honor, and who do not understand, are like the beasts who perish.

Lord God, cause me to seek after You, and not after honor.

Lord God, give me understanding.

Lord God, redeem my soul from the power of the grave.

Lord God, upon my death, be there to receive me.

Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.

Psalm 49: 20

Lord God, cause me to have understanding, that this world, and everything in it, is Yours.

I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.

These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.

Lord God, show me Your salvation.

Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.
